At Point Reyes Lamanpour Beach yesterday, my sister chose the one spot on the beach with a log as the place to take my mom who was holding my 2-year-old daughter's hand. They walked out toward the bay together eager to dip their toes into the frigid water. The moment my mom's foot touched the freezing cold waves, she instinctively started stepping backward. She inched back and suddenly tripped on that one-and-a-half-foot log I mentioned earlier--literally the only log along the entire mile-long seashore.
I was a few feet away and immediately went to her aid. Grabbing her now-sandy and slightly wet hat, I helped her sit up. Luckily she'd fallen over the log and not on it! I knew she was fine when she started laughing hysterically and couldn't stop for minutes! Noticing that both her shirt and pants were damp and sandy, my husband helpfully interjected that he hoped she had a change of clothes with her. Of course not. I joked that we had only packed a change of clothes for the toddler but had not thought to do the same for Grandma!
